How to deal with the transition from fossil fuel based feedstock to bio based feedstock?
The mini-programme LoCaRe, in particular the region of Zeeland in the Netherlands, would like to invite you for a Site Visit to see a few of these successes and to inspire and show other regions how the South-West of the Netherlands is working towards a new green economy.
During the site visit on the 8th March 2012 two projects will be visited. First a visit to AlgaeLink is organised in the morning. AlgaeLink is a global leader in algae growing technology, including downstream processes in harvesting and extraction. A range of robust photo bioreactors and hybrid open/closed systems offers efficient and proven solutions for market applications in Farma, Food, Feed and Fuel industries. In the project 'Algae growth at industrial scale' a pilot plant is build of 2000 m2 in which process waste water of LambWestonMeijer, a company that processes potatoes, is used as feed for algae. In the future these algae are then send to Prins&Dingemans where they are used to grow oysters.
In the afternoon the Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant in Ghent will be visited. This Pilot Plant is a flexible and diversified pilot plant that operates at ton scale. It is there to close the critical gap between scientific feasibility and industrial application of new biotechnological processes. The Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant is a one-stop-shop that performs the entire value chain in a single plant, from the biomass green resource up to the final bioproduct. It focuses on second generation technologies converting agricultural waste products and non-food crops into biofuels, bioplastics and other bioproducts. The Pilot Plant is situated in the Port of Ghent in Belgium and is accessible for companies and research institutions throughout the world.
